When in Doubt . . .

Bake!

Today I mailed out packages to family containing goodies of distraction. Baking is a wonderful avoidance technique for me, but it is unfortunately weight inducing :o(. So in these times of WTF sharing the calories is the best plan I have.

This year's list of goodies includes: homemade crack.er jacks, cocoa rum balls, almond chocolate toffee,
gingerbread cookies, Grandma's date nut rolls, coconut joys AND I still want to attempt (drum roll please)Pralines!
Of course my kitchen is left looking quite a mess. I don't have a problem with the mess, eventually it will get cleaned up. This year we can't wait for eventually as we have two crazed kittens who love the counter tops and drinking water from everything except their water dish. In addition kittens have an endearing way of making everything a toy . . . right now I can't find the decorating tips from the cookie icing earlier this week. Probably under the couch with the toy mice and several of my earrings.
Ahh kittens.

I love baking too - it's a special part of this season for me, baking gifts and giving them away.

So sorry to hear of your short adoption. How utterly heartbreaking....the new kitties must help ease some of the pain. They are gorgeous...the two here have helped with many an IF disappointment this year. The baking looks glorious....but in this part of the world I have never really worked out what cracker jacks are!

I love your gingerbread men! So sorry to head about the rollercoaster you've been on this past month and I hope that the new year brings a new call and a baby that you get to keep forever! Nice to "meet" you! Wishing you the best of luck! ICLW #110

your treats look amazing. Baking is so healing.

I don't think you'll only get once chance to pick up a baby from the hospital. Call it woman's intuition...

I too, love to bake and have to bring everything to work or ship it off so my husband and I don't eat 5 dozen of whatever I just made!

Hi there, I'm ICLWing.

How about if I come to your place and do the washing up in return for some of that delicious looking food? I didn't do any baking this year and am definitely craving all the yummy sweet stuff.

But on a serious note - I've only read through your last few posts, but reading about you having to give back the baby they'd organised for you made me cry. That must have been absolutely horrible for your family. I hope these next few months are kind to you and that your kittens don't do too much damage. I'm looking forward to following your journey.
